How to Play Pilot in Hell Let Loose: Vietnam
A useful pilot moves the team, protects the aircraft and communicates risk. Flying is only one part of the role.
Pilot priorities
- Agree on the task, passengers and destination before takeoff.
- Choose an approach and abort point before entering the landing zone.
- Do not trade the aircraft for a landing that no longer helps the team.
- Call arrival, risk, landing and departure clearly.
- After contact, reassess whether transport, supply or redeployment has the most value.
Know your job
The official game listing places Pilot and Logistics Officer in the US-only Helicopter unit. A helicopter can support transport, supply movement and battlefield positioning, but the exact crew and task depend on the live match.
Your score is not the decision rule. A safe delivery that strengthens the team is more useful than a dramatic approach that loses the aircraft and everyone aboard.
Communicate before taking off
- Confirm who is boarding and who is responsible for the mission.
- Mark or describe the intended landing area and a fallback.
- Ask whether the destination still supports the current objective.
- State whether the flight is transport, supply, extraction or repositioning.
- Leave enough time for passengers to answer before committing.
Make a landing decision
Read the objective first
A landing far from the current task may be safe but useless. A landing directly on a watched objective may be fast but waste the aircraft. Balance distance, cover, approach visibility and the time passengers need after landing.
Set an abort point
Decide before the final approach what would make you leave: concentrated fire, a blocked landing area, a changed objective or a lost communication link. Calling the abort early gives passengers and squad leaders time to reset.
Depart with a plan
Do not remain exposed while deciding the next task. Leave the landing area, confirm the next request and avoid crossing a known threat without a reason.
Patch 1.2 changes for helicopter crews
Pilots and Logistics Officers can now ride as helicopter passengers.
Transport Helicopter Gunner seating received an improvement pass.
Slow-turn helicopter movement stability was improved on PlayStation 5.
Retest any crew-position, passenger or platform-specific advice written for the launch build.
Huey and radio roadmap status
Update 1.5 is planned to replace the existing helicopter representation with an officially licensed Bell UH-1 Iroquois “Huey”. The roadmap also describes a co-pilot radio with synchronised era-appropriate music and a separate music-volume control.
Do not use the radio as part of a current-match checklist until the feature ships and its controls are verified in the live build.
Common pilot mistakes
- Taking off before the destination and passengers are clear.
- Continuing an approach after the landing area is compromised.
- Focusing on controls while missing a changed objective.
- Giving no arrival or abort call to the people aboard.
- Following an old-build control or crew guide without checking the current version.
